Helping with preparing jugs and directing people at the Winter Sowing Event indoors at Harmony School Gym.

Q: What is the Winter Sowing Event? 

• A winter sowing workshop that uses milk jugs as mini-greenhouses to start native plant seeds.
• What happens at the event:
  • Attendees learn about the stratification process and how to protect seeds from critters.
  • They plant seeds, and care for them at home during the winter and spring.
  • Participants receive prompts via email to help them nurture their seedlings.
• What happens after the event:
  • Some of the grown seedlings are kept by the attendee.
  • The remaining seedlings are returned to MC-IRIS to be up-potted for the annual MC-IRIS Native Plant Sale in September.
• Goal: To grow native plants to replace invasive species, support wildlife, and prepare for the annual Native Plant Sale.
• Resources: MC-IRIS provides all necessary supplies like seeds, jugs, and soil, though participants can bring their own milk jugs if they have them.
